Drumlin Wind Energy Co-op

Drumlin owns and operates 6 x 250kW wind turbines across Northern Ireland, in Aghafad, Ballyboley, Cavanoneill, Parkgate, Ballyrobert and Cavanakill.

The turbines are funded and owned by the community, after raising £3.9 million in 2 successful share offers in 2012 and then 2014.

Two of the six turbines were repowered in 2025, and these turbines have around double the efficiency.

As well as paying a fair return to our members, we donate to a community benefit fund which includes funding our BREESI education initiative.

Aims

To generate clean, green electricity and help reduce reliance on existing less environmentally-friendly energy resources.

What is a Drumlin?

A drumlin, from the Irish word droimnín (“little ridge”), first recorded in 1833, is an elongated hill in the shape of an inverted spoon or half-buried egg formed by glacial ice acting on underlying unconsolidated till or ground moraine.
